Thanos Plevris

Minister of Migration and Asylum of the Hellenic Republic

Thanos Plevris was born in Athens on 21 May 1977. He is an Orthodox Christian, married to Eleni Papatheologou Plevris, and father of two children, Niki and Konstantinos.

He serves as Minister of Migration and Asylum, Member of Parliament for Athens A, and is a lawyer. He is a graduate of the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a postgraduate degree from Heidelberg University (2002), awarded with a scholarship, on the subject “Patient consent according to Greek and German criminal law.” In 2006, he received his doctorate from the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a dissertation entitled “Criminal Liability in Medical Practice. Research and Experimentation with Humans as the Object.”

Since 2019, he has been a Member of the Hellenic Parliament for the Athens A constituency with New Democracy. As a Member of Parliament, he participated in the Special Parliamentary Committees conducting preliminary examinations on the “Criminal Liability of Ministers,” concerning Mr. N. Pappas and Mr. D. Papagelopoulos, as well as in the Standing Committee on Educational Affairs and the Special Standing Committee on Parliamentary Ethics and Social Affairs.

Thanos Plevris has also participated in the Standing Committee on Social Affairs and the Special Standing Committee for the Monitoring of the Social Security System.
