Ivor Ichikowitz

Founder and f. Executive Chairman, Paramount Group; Executive Chairman, Ichikowitz Family Foundation

Ivor Ichikowitz is a South African industrialist and philanthropist, best known as the founder of Paramount Group, one of the most innovative privately owned aerospace and defence companies globally. Through the Ichikowitz Family Foundation, he actively supports initiatives in African innovation, heritage, and security, and is a prominent advocate of African self-reliance and technological development.

A pioneer in the global aerospace and defence sector, Ichikowitz founded and led Paramount Group through its transformation into a world-class provider of advanced land, sea, and air defence solutions for governments worldwide. Under his leadership, the company gained international recognition, including the development of the AHRLAC aircraft—the first high-performance reconnaissance aircraft designed and built in Africa—reflecting his vision of “portable manufacturing,” a model that enables countries to build domestic industrial capacity rather than rely solely on imports.

Beyond industry, Ichikowitz has increasingly focused on philanthropy and strategic thought leadership. Through his foundation, he supports wildlife conservation—particularly anti-poaching initiatives using K9 units and aerial surveillance—and invests in African youth through the African Youth Survey, the most comprehensive study of its kind on the continent. A regular contributor to global strategic forums, he continues to shape discussions on industrialization, regional security, and innovation-driven development, emphasizing strategic autonomy and resilient high-tech ecosystems.
