Ralph Wooddisse is a high-ranking officer in the British Army, currently serving as Commander of Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC), a key NATO high-readiness headquarters capable of rapidly commanding multinational forces in response to global crises.
Lieutenant General Sir Ralph William Wooddisse has extensive operational experience across multiple theatres, including Northern Ireland, the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan, and has held command at every level from battalion through division and field army. Commissioned into the Royal Anglian Regiment in 1989 after officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and a degree at University College London, he was awarded the Military Cross (MC) in 1999 for gallant service in Kosovo.
Before taking command of the ARRC in 2024, Wooddisse served as Commander Field Army, where he was responsible for the readiness, training and generation of the British Army’s deployable forces. His career also includes senior staff appointments within the Ministry of Defence and at the heart of British Army strategic planning.
A graduate of staff and defence studies, Sir Ralph Wooddisse brings deep experience in leadership, multinational interoperability and operational planning to the NATO command structure, where he continues to contribute to the Alliance’s deterrence and defence posture.
