Minister of Digital Governance and AI of the Hellenic Republic
Dimitris Papastergiou currently serves as Minister of Digital Governance of Greece, a position he has held since June 2023, in the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis. His portfolio focuses on digital transformation, e-government services, innovation and the strategic use of technology in public administration.
He is an Electrical and Computer Engineer, a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), with a strong background in technology, digital media and software development. Early in his career, he was actively involved in pioneering digital initiatives, including the creation of the first integrated website of the Prefecture of Trikala.
Since 2002, he has practiced as an Electrical and Computer Engineer in Trikala, working on electromechanical projects, software development and, from 2007 onwards, renewable energy, having implemented more than 300 private renewable energy projects.
His engagement in public service began in 2002 with his election to the City Council of Trikala. He was elected Mayor of Trikkaion in 2014 and re-elected in 2019. In the same year, he was elected President of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), playing a key role in promoting smart cities and digital innovation at local government level.
