Bujar Osmani is a prominent North Macedonian politician of Albanian ethnicity and a specialized surgeon who has held several high-ranking government positions. Born on September 11, 1979, in Skopje, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in 2004 and later earned a PhD in 2018. His medical career includes serving as a surgeon at the University Clinic for Surgical Diseases “St. Naum of Ohrid” in Skopje.
In the political sphere, Osmani is a leading member of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI). He began his ministerial career as the Minister of Health (2008–2011) before serving as the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs (2017–2020), where he acted as the Chief Negotiator for his country’s accession to the European Union. From 2020 to 2024, he served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, notably becoming the first ethnic Albanian to hold this post in North Macedonia. During this tenure, he also chaired the OSCE as its Chairperson-in-Office throughout 2023. In 2024, he was a candidate in the North Macedonian presidential elections. He is married with two children and is fluent in Albanian, Macedonian, and English.
