Paul Lay

Senior Editor, Engelsberg Ideas

Paul Lay is a prominent British historian and journalist who currently serves as Senior Editor at Engelsberg Ideas. He is best known for his long tenure as the Editor of History Today and as a founding editor of BBC History Magazine. An expert in early modern British history, he authored the critically acclaimed book Providence Lost: The Rise and Fall of Cromwell’s Protectorate, which was shortlisted for the Cundill History Prize. In addition to his editorial work, he is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Buckingham and a frequent contributor to major newspapers like The Times and The Guardian.
