General Robert Kariuki Kibochi is a retired Kenya Army general with a distinguished career spanning more than four decades of service. Throughout his tenure, he held senior leadership positions across command and staff functions, culminating in his appointment as the tenth Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, a role he served from May 2020 to May 2023.
His professional focus centers on strengthening the African Peace and Security Architecture through institutional capacity building. A scholar-soldier, he holds a doctoral degree in African Peace and Conflict Studies. His leadership was marked by a strong commitment to regional stability and the modernization of defense institutions in response to Africa’s evolving security challenges.
General Kibochi also served with the United Nations as Commander of the Kenyan Contingent to the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) from 2000 to 2001. His decorations include the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH) and Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), among others.
